Skullcap, Scutellaria lateriflora
Parts used: Herb.
Constituents: Flavonoids, Bitters, Volatile oil, Tannins.
Actions: Sedative, Nervine, Anti-spasmodic, Trophorestorative, Vasodilator cerebral, Anti-convulsant.
Indications:
Anxiety, tension, nervous exhaustion, insomnia, hysteria, restless sleep, depression, shortness of breath, hypertension, peace of mind, worry. Combines well with valerian, passionflower, black cohosh.
To the nervous system; headaches of nervous origin, pre-menstrual tension, neuralgia, schizophrenia, and mental problems, palpitations.
May be used in all exhausted or depressed conditions.
Epilepsy including grand mal, chorea.
And fear, shock, over activity, pushed themselves or adrenals.
Herbal extract: 15-30mL per week.
Energetics: Cool, bitter, astringent, dry. Dosha: V=P+K-.
Meridians: heart, kidney, liver.
Contraindications: In high doses during pregnancy.
