Greater Celandine, Chelidonium majus
Parts used: Herb, orange latex.
Constituents: Alkaloids, Bitter principle, Bitter glycosides, Volatile oils, Proteolytic enzymes, Orange latex.
Actions: Antispasmodic, Cholagogue, Diuretic, Hypotensive, Analgesic.
Indications:
Whooping cough, bronchitis, IBS.
Cholecystitis, gallstones, hepatitis, jaundice, cholelithiasis, liver congestion.
Constipation, colic, flatulence.
Hypertension.
Pain relief, Angina, palpitations, chest pain, shortness of breath, angina pectoris.
Externally: Apply fresh latex to warts, eczema, varrucae, malignant skin tumours (proteolytic enzymes).
For eye inflammation use tincture as a eye bath (better than Eyebright), for strains and bruises (better than Arnica).
Herbal extract: 10-20mL per week.
Energetics: Bitter, pungent, warming, cooling and dry.
Meridians: gallbladder, liver, heart, lung.
Contraindications: Pregnancy. Side effects: dry mouth, dizziness, and skin irritation.
